Where: Metro Theatre, 1370 SW Marine Drive, Vancouver

Synopsis: A wonderful rompish tale of a Princess on the prowl, a Nanny on the take, a Ninja Prince and a King and Queen who haven’t a clue, all of them manipulated, cajoled and coached by a good fairy and demon instigator. There will be song and dance, tender moments, kissing, fight scenes, and a whole lot of mayhem!

Characters Needed

GOOD FAIRY– (female-identifying) A prototype for the Good Witch in “The Wizard of Oz”. She floats when she walks and rarely misses an opportunity to embarrass the Demon and do good deeds.

DEMON – (male-identifying) Traditionally male, bad to the core. Always present and looking to make trouble.

NARRATOR – (open) Tells the story when things get confusing. Think Betty White combined with Mr Rogers.

KING – (male-identifying). Bumbling, pleasant leader who loves their job.

QUEEN (female-identifying). Dedicated to her husband, child and job

JINGLES – (Open). Court Jester and laundry attendant.

ROYAL SYCOPHANT – (open). Clown with administrative duties.

NANNY DO-LITTLE – (male-identifying) The traditional pantomime Dame, always played by a man.

PRINCESS AURORA – (female-identifying). Typical fairy tale heroine. Young enough to be curious and old enough to be dangerous.

SMITTY – (male-identifying). A prince in the making. A rapper type and soccer player all rolled into one.

VAL AND JAKE– (open) Smitty’s entourage and teammates

ENSEMBLE – Villagers, a bear and various other members of the kingdom, all played by a small but busy group of children and adults, playing multiple roles throughout.

Callbacks:  Sunday, August 27 at 10:00 AM

Rehearsal period:  Sunday, September 11 through until opening night.
Monday and Wednesday evenings and Sundays at 10:00 AM

Requirements: All cast and crew must provide proof of vaccination. All provincial public health orders will be strictly adhered to.

Notes: This is a NON-EQUITY production. All roles at Metro Theatre, are Volunteer positions.

Vocal audition – everyone will be taught a song by the Musical Director and will sing it in groups of various sizes.

Choreography-everyone will be taught a simple routine by the choreographer. Please wear comfortable clothing and bring good dance shoes and tap shoes if you have them.

Acting audition -Claude, the director will play some improv games and run the group through some short scenes.

Ethno-cultural casting statement:  We encourage submissions from artists with a broad range of backgrounds including, but not limited to: race, ethnicity, indigeneity, gender, and sexuality. We encourage anyone to audition for any role as we will be casting on who is best for the role.
